星のカービィ 結成! カービィハンターズZの巻

The great charm of these Kirby novels is that they all tend to be pretty different and this time around we get a Kirby-style take on isekai. Kirby ends up in an alternate universe version of Dreamland called Dream Kingdom and goes through the tropes of meeting the townspeople, joining the adventurer's group, and slaying monsters. In this place the adventurers are three other Kirbies who all just go by "Kirby" which leads to a very funny scene that reminded me of the "He's Squidward, she's Squidward, you're Squidward, I'm Squidward!" scene from Spongebob. After being MIA for a volume or two we get a lot of good Chef Kawasaki moments, the alternate universe Kawasaki seems to be a lot less bothered by the Kirbys than the main Kawasaki. I kinda guessed what the ending would be since there's sort of a literary reference that you might get when Kirby first enters the alternate world, but there's a fun little bonus twist at the end that I didn't expect.

The language is pretty standard but since this one has Magalor, it does have the quirk of spelling common words with Katakana. Some of the fight scenes were a bit tricky to follow since the events of them are fairly surreal but I was also just really tired one night so that could've played a part. If you like the other Kirby novels this is another fun one and it's impressive how they keep each one pretty fresh without really repeating ideas.
