The usefulness of this textbook varies a lot by chapter. The main reason for that is also my main complaint about the book: there aren't any definitions and (next to no) explanations. For some chapters that works well, but others not so much. Especially the chapter on vocab with similar meaning would have benefitted from some definitions. It's basically just a list of words you have to google, because the one example sentence provided per word won't be enough to understand the different nuances.
If you plan to take the JLPT the book is a good way to get familiar with the question format. Overall while I got some use out of the textbook it was less than I had hoped.
