A surprisingly interesting collection of stories
"First Spanish Reader" collects 41 pieces of text - typically short stories, which will range from a paragraph (generally moral stories) to multiple pages, though there are some collections of proverbs as well. The Spanish original is printed on the left with an accompanying English translation on the right.
There's a vocabulary list of the words used in the back, as well as comprehension questions for each story (no answers provided).
I really enjoyed the stories picked here. This book was originally published in 1964, so I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of content, but the stories were all entertaining; the last one in particular gave me Kino's Journey vibes.
The stories are arranged in order of general difficulty, easiest first. While the grammar starts as fairly beginner, the vocabulary has a wide spread. It's all everyday language and descriptors, but a wide swath of everyday is covered, so you'll learn some good stuff if your vocabulary's lacking.
