I decided to read this because I watched the TV show and really enjoyed it. After reading the book it's clear the script writers took quite a few liberties as the show was vastly more entertaining than the book. Also, oddly, most of the cases in the book occur in the second season of the show, not the first. I was pretty bored about half way through but kept pushing along purely due to my reading goals. It will probably be more interesting if you haven't seen the show and already know the cases. Some of the endings change, but not enough to be shocking.
The grammar is pretty straight forward with a scattering of casual dialogue mixed in. Due to it being about various different murders and the writing having a bit of flare you will get a minor vocab workout.
