Did not like at first, but grew on me

I think I'd like to give this a 3.5. I wasn't sure for a good portion of the book, but the last couple of chapters really hooked me, so I'll be checking out the second omnibus, just to see where things go.

It's the end of the 20th century, in metropolitan Tokyo. We follow Subaru Sumeragi, successor to the vaunted onmyouji family Sumeragi, solving supernatural cases. He lives with his twin sister Hokuto and Seiichirou Sakurazuka, a veterinarian with ties to a clan of assassins. The cases tend to revolve around themes of modern day life and human vulnerability in a fast-paced modern world.

There's some good atmosphere in here, which is jarringly put into contrast with Hokuto's carefree mania and constant attempts to pair her 15-year-old brother up with the 25-year-old Seiichirou. Seiichirou seems okay with it; hard to tell at this point just how BL-ly this will or won't get. The contrast is what's brought this manga down the most for me; I didn't like Hokuto at all until a particular chapter later in the book, and her constant SubaruxSeiichirou commentary got on my nerves, even as a BL fan.

Furigana is present, but in my Kindle copy was nigh-unreadable. Language used can be a little tricky, even though technically I don't think the vocab or grammar is unusual; just how the author worded things, I guess. There's a good number of pages with minimal/no text, and a fair number where the only text is religious chanting, which you can probably safely ignore if you want.
