Wholesome Adaptation
I watched the first two seasons of the anime (I think there's more but I don't have access to them), so I was excited to see that this adaptation coincidentally appeared on Netflix.
The live-action version offers something to the IP that I didn't think could be done. The anime, while charming and fun, is repetitive and quite unrealistic in terms of how real people would act. I was skeptical of how a live action version might be depicted, because in the anime the protagonists are more competitive, where Nishikata seems genuinely upset and bothered by Takagi. Of course, that's part of the humor, but wouldn't really make sense in real life. Thankfully, they translated it very well, and it's pretty clear the pair are good friends in the show, and the teasing comes off as more realistic.
I also love the plot point they added (no spoilers) with Takagi in the latter half, which really tied the plot together in a way that avoided the serial repetition from the anime version. This series feels more cohesive as a singular story. I'm also very happy to hear that a movie is supposedly coming out soon to follow up on this which I'm looking forward to. I hope it's not too difficult to find.
As far as language difficulty, I think on average it's about the same as the anime, but the differences are what you'd expect in a live-action translation: -The anime version is more clearly spoken and easier to parse, but the characters voices are much more cartoonish, which is its own challenge -In the live action version, speech is slower, but more realistically paced and may be more difficult to parse the sounds when there's a bit more mumbling involved -The vocabulary is overall a little more simple and repetitive in the live action version, if I had to say. There's a lot of set phrases that are said a lot (一緒に帰ろう for example) and N3 grammar/vocab is perfectly fine for this -Coming from the anime, most scenes are transferred over, so even if you miss what's said, it's not difficult to follow what's happening.
