Learning about mathematics in a fun way
Small disclaimer: I read this as a child and really enjoyed it, so the nostalgia is strong.
Robert, a young boy who does not care for his maths class, meets a being that introduces himself as the 数の悪魔 in his dream. Over the course of twelve dreams, the 数の悪魔 teaches Robert about various mathematical principles.
The book is not meant to teach maths, but rather is trying to show kids that mathematics can be fun. Even though it is written for children, the mathematical concepts introduced are surprisingly advanced. Some of them I only formally learned during high school or even later. It was fun to read as a kid and learn about all these new "tricks", but it was equally enjoyable as an adult that knows about the mathematical theories behind it. I really enjoyed reading the book and would recommend it.
Pros: The mathematical concepts and algorithms are presented in a fun and easy to understand way with plenty of illustrations. It does not feel like "studying", but rather "learning about this fun new trick"
Cons: Sometimes the book uses made up expressions instead of the correct mathematical terms so it is not ideal if you are trying to learn maths vocab. For example, exponentiation is referred to as ホップする.
