A very nice, easy-to-follow slice of life story

This book follows a 6th grade girl, Naoko. Naoko's mother, Haruna, is an international reporter and often goes overseas for work, leaving Naoko with various friends and family members while she's away. As a result, Naoko has always moved from place to place, never really settling down or able to make friends.

The story starts with Naoko being sent to stay with her grandmother, Shizue, and her aunt and uncle, Akiko and Tamotsu, who run an omelet restaurant (where their family also lives). The story is about various interactions Naoko has with her twin cousins, Kazuya and Toshiya, and the general ups and downs of living in a family, as Naoko learns more about herself and grows to love the simple joys of family life that she had never really experienced before.

I'm an N3 level on the JLPT, and I found this book to be perfect for my level for the most part. The grammar level is nearly perfect for an N3 level, and while I sometimes had trouble with the vocabulary, it's all pretty common stuff so a trusty e-dictionary was all I needed.

This was my first book that I read in another language and I felt really happy with myself for being able to finish it. It's not so simple that you'll feel like it's below you, but it's also not so difficult that you'll be totally lost and confused. It's a perfect challenge for a fresh N3 passer. I highly recommend you give it a read!
