Update: I finished the show, and my opinion largely remains the same. Things do improve a bit in the 2nd half of the season, but even then, I felt really underwhelmed with both the characters and the music for most of the show. To the show's credit, Tomori serves as good representation of a character struggling with mental illness, even though it makes the show initially boring. I liked the pink haired girl and drummer girl well enough too. Almost everyone else felt very one dimensional and unrealistic though. If you're looking for a band anime, I'd highly suggest ぼっち・ざ・ろく or ガールズバンドクライ instead.
Original: I've only watched through episode 5, but so far I really don't see the appeal. If you want to watch an anime with a really slow development, and disjointed transitions, where half the characters have the personality and conversational skills of a doorknob, then maybe this anime is for you.
For me, every episode so far has been like "this could have potential? Maybe?". And so I keep watching, hoping that the next episode will actually be interesting. I guess part of it comes down to whether Tomori hooks you in episode 3 or not, since she's basically the special character of the show (and so far the one with the least personality. Edit: she does develop a personality halfway through). The voice acting overall ranges from decent to very artificial sounding, depending on the character.
The animation is great - if I didn't know it was 3D, I wouldn't realize it half the time. The extremely minimal music scenes have been nice. That said, I can't help but compare this to ガールズバンドクライ, which really leans into the 3D, and makes amazing use of lighting, panning, etc, to really add a special atmosphere and mood to the show - especially the musical performances. While GBC is less smooth than MyGo, it feels so much more alive to me.
