Excellent Blend of Humor and Story for N4 Level Learners
I've really enjoyed this series so far. The story is a slice-of-life mixed with some magical girl elements presented in a fairly matter-of-fact way. The characters are likeable and interesting, and the plot meanders a bit, taking time to smell the roses before moving toward resolution. This gives the manga a relaxed feel that never escalates to the point of real conflict or danger, yet still manages to capture the attention and imagination of the reader.
I would put the grammar and vocab at a solid high N4-lower N3 level. I have been studying Japanese for just over two years, into my third, and I started this series about 8 to 10 months ago now, reading slowly and at my own pace. It has become much easier as my studies progressed, to the point now where I can read several pages in a row without pausing to look up vocabulary or translate. I've even made it through one or two story arcs without consulting the dictionary or translate apps more than twice. In my opinion, this is the largest bane of truly being able to enjoy something while you study; it's simply impossible to have fun reading something that requires looking up things every couple of words.
I highly recommend this for people who want to be challenged but do not want to spend a lot of time looking up archaic and domain-specific vocabulary. It exists, of course, but there is far more 'natural' language. I would suggest watching out for diction and 'pronunciation', though. They definitely use slang, and of course a running joke is that the father is unintelligible even to the characters.
