An enjoyable pulp novel
There are three initial story lines that eventually converge into one, all involving strange deaths. Nothing super graphic, but the body count does keep ticking up. Keep in mind this is a supernatural story line, so if you want something realistic this isn't it. I also would hesitate to really call it a mystery. Imagine an 80s B horror movie, then make it a Japanese book.
I don't have much to comment on for the story - if you're familiar with 赤川次郎 you know what type of book he writes and you either enjoy it or you don't. This isn't his best, but I still enjoyed it and it's not his worst either. I recommend it for light reading, or maybe as a first book.
I have an old paper copy so I while I can't speak to every edition, mine had abundant furigana, including more than once on names. The character names, largely, were common and easy to remember ones.
