A cute introduction to Japanese onomatopoeia

This is a pretty straight-foward little book: it's 110 pages of basic Japanese sound words. There are five categories of types of sounds the book covers; each onomatopoeia gets its own page, complete with what makes the sound, the sound in question (in both kana and romaji), a picture and story to remember the sound, as well as a bonus onomatopoeia or onomatopoeia fact.

The chapters given are:

  1. Animal Sounds
  2. Human Sounds
  3. Mechanical Sounds
  4. Nature Sounds
  5. Other Sounds

I thought this was a nice introduction to the very wide world of Japanese onomatopoeia, and a good jumping off point for new learners.
