a good bridge between childrens books & YA fiction

This is a large series (10ish books i think) of abridged Sherlock Holmes novels written for kids. There is another similar series that I think skews to a younger audience but this one is probably for kids around 9-11.

Each book contains 3-4 self-contained cases that are adapted from the original stories.

Pros:

• the stories are likely familiar so you have some existing context
• short story format is easier to tackle than one long novel
• repetitive structure (mystery - clues - hypothesis - reveal)
• the writing style is quite simple and isn't prose-heavy
• a long series with tons of content

Cons

• It's not original native content so you aren't getting a cultural experience
• It's set in Victorian England so the transliterated people & place names can be annoying to read.
• The old-timey setting means sometimes the vocabulary or grammar is odd (but it's not often enough for it to be a big deal imo)
