A murder mystery that's set over two volumes. A young woman called Jiho has car troubles on a trip across the country and has to stay overnight in a tiny fishing village. While waiting for her car to be fixed she books herself into the only place to stay in the village. By morning one of the guests is found dead and Jiho becomes determined to find out who committed the crime.
This has vibes of sherlock holmes or agatha christie. The main character is extremely fixated on solving the crime and everything plays out across the small B&B they are staying at and the one or two locations worth visiting in the village. As the investigation progresses you find out more and more about the group of 10 or so guests staying in the hotel.
This had a lot of elements I like in a novel at this stage: a limited number of characters and settings, a mystery element to drive me forward and a lot of repetition of vocab.
The opening section went into detail about cars which was really hard for me to follow and some of the witty back-and-forth between the guests was a challenge but from the point of the murder onwards I found it enjoyable and easy enough to follow the story with lookups.
