This is a gentle introduction for kids to the idea of differences between people and families, told from the point of view of a cat. Although it says 'LGBT' in the title, and it does touch on gender stereotypes and the fact that same-sex marriage is currently legal in other countries but not Japan, it doesn't get very into the weeds on what being 'LGBT' means, what is gender, who are trans people, etc. The material itself is probably not going to be riveting if you're a younger person who grew up in a Western country, or if you wanted to learn more about LGBT life in Japan, but the illustrations are cute and the message is good. (There is a companion booklet - my library copy came with it - that does have a little bit more info for adults exploring these subjects with kids, but still not anything super in-depth.)
Language-wise, there is furigana on everything and not a ton of kanji used, grammar never goes past N3, and the vocabulary is fairly limited and simple. The book is also broken up into short sections, and the page count includes a number of 'activity pages' without much text, so this would probably be a good choice for someone just starting to get into reading longer prose.
