The book has about ten stories.
At end of each one, it tells you how long the story was. They get increasingly longer with the final one being 2000 words or so. The first ones are around 500 words I think, so the emphasis is really on 'short'.
I was able to read without having to look up many words at all, and for rarer words there is a footnote at the bottom of the page. It meant I was able to keep up a good speed.
It says the book is aimed at N3 level, but I think N4 level people would be fine, there wasn't any grammar I didn't recognise.
A lot of the stories were based on American people / American life which was a little disappointing to me - I'd have preferred Japanese stories. Having said that a couple of them were genuinely moving and brought a tear to my eye.
It was a good thing for me to read in the 'extensive' reading category.
