Short Story Collection by Matsuda Aoko

There are more experimental short stories in this collection compared with "where the wild ladies are". Some are a few pages long and others just a page or a few sentences. There is a story about a blue lip balm that resembles a lake, a Bond girl convention, a seance that summons Betty Davis, a story revolving around the lid of yogurt.

The main connecting theme is feminism and the social position of women in modern society. There are women here that are not conforming, that are oppressed, that are liberated, that learn to think and act on their own.

I found it pretty interesting as a thematic but also for language learning. While currently studying for the N1, I found a lot of verbs and vocabulary that I could practice. Apart from a couple of stories, I think the level is ok if you are N2-N1.

I would recommend this to anyone that enjoyed おばあさんたちのいるところ and to this interested in modern writing and women studies.
