From a language-learning perspective, this is an easy enough show to understand: it’s a modern-day slice-of-life romance, comprising 8 short episodes, without anything in particular that would cause difficulties. (A couple of small caveats: Holland doesn’t enunciate particularly well, often mumbling his lines; and sometimes the actors are battling against the thunder of the ocean or the swell of music at emotional points in the story.) Unfortunately, simple language is about all this show has going for it.

The plot had potential, but lacked a consistent tone, swinging wildly from healing slice-of-life in one scene to 막장 territory the next. There were also too many plot threads that weren’t fleshed out, which is unsurprising given the time constraints. I found Holland’s portrayal of Tommy very awkward, to the point of being uncomfortable to watch, especially in the first few episodes; thankfully it did improve a little as the show progressed. Even 한기찬, the drama’s sole saving grace, struggled with a role that give him little opportunity to shine.

Overall, I found it a lacklustre and forgettable drama.
