Juvenile meets hard-boiled
This is a collection of loosely connected short stories, previously published in magazines for 5th and 6th graders.
Language: due to the target audience being late grade schoolers, the vocabulary used is limited with very approachable grammar. Imo, 東野圭吾 is on the easy to read side of mystery authors to begin with even when writing for an adult audience, but even so this book stands out.
Content: it's mysteries aimed at children. The writing isn't super suspenseful, but there's fun plays on words. Also, each story has a moral of sorts. It's obvious but not drawn out.
All in all, it was an okay read. Not bad for a kids book, but I definitely prefer his other works. :)
