There was some exciting action for a bit (and even a bit of romance), and things got interesting... but then fell into the same poor habits as volume 1: drawn out exposition, solutions to conflicts basically being explained and/or handed to the characters, various conversation scenes taking way too long to resolve, etc. The end gets just interesting enough that "ok, maybe I'll continue onto book 3" - which I guess I'll do, since I'm reading it with the book club. At least it's easy, but I find it pretty boring and predictable, more often than not.
