Another masterpiece
The first volume quickly became my favorite thing I've read in Japanese so far, and the second volume doesn't disappoint. You may think that since the end of the first one revealed the state of the world, it'd be hard to come up with new mysteries and surprises, but at this point the author knows the gloves are off and while volume 2 does still have plenty of wholesome sweet adventures, this one goes daaaaaaaaaaaaaark. I think I actually said "holy shit" out loud at one twist. The great thing about these is it doesn't lean on shock value and there are just as many, probably more stories that end with happily or at least with a funny twist, so when they do go for the gut punch it hits hard.
I feel like I had to do a few more lookups this time around, but it's still an incredibly readable and addictive text. Sometimes I feel fatigued reading Japanese even when I'm enjoying the material, but I couldn't put this down and had to keep going. The artwork is beautiful as always and we get some cute new friends this volume who all have great designs.
