Classic anime with all sorts of hilarious antics, over the top characters, and sweet moments. It's definitely not without its flaws - some of which are inherited from the manga, but many of which are just puzzling or frustrating adaptation choices. If you care about faithfulness to the manga, I'd suggest watching the anime beforehand, as there's tons of filler and changes. Sometimes they work, but often enough they drag things out unnecessarily. Additionally, the anime ups the slapstick quite a lot.
Regardless, it mostly captures the spirit of the manga very well, and things are often line for line. So reading the manga first will definitely help with comprehension. There's a lot of difference speech & voice acting styles in this, so while it can be a bit tricky, it's also very useful for improving audio comprehension.
