The scene transitions are just excellent. For example: the character
we follow passes another character from the cast on the road at the
end of a scene. Then we follow the new character in the next scene.
This gives the whole book a movie-like feeling, where there is
constantly something going on on screen.
Something else I also really appreciated about it is that the story
starts from page 1. There is no "well, gotta get through the first
third somehow before it gets interesting" in this case. It's just
interesting immediately instead.
No scene felt wasted or drawn out.
The setting is also cool and atypical for light novels (gangsters in prohibition
era new york). Then some immortality elixir is thrown in to spice
things up. I wish it was a bit darker at times, but that's more a me thing. Can't
fault the book for that.
This book is really well written.
