A mystery inside of a thriller. I feel like the end of this book is probably polarising but I enjoyed it.
It was especially good as a learner because it's mostly dialogue and less in the way of prose so the language was quite straightforward.
8 people are staying together in a cabin for the weekend when intruders break in and hold them hostage. Everything plays out over the ensuing 2 days meaning the characters, setting and plot are very focused and easy for a learner to follow. The characters often go back over the facts of their situation while trying to get out of it so there is good natural repetition of vocab as well.
One note: the first chapter introduces all of the characters in pretty quick succession as they arrive to the cabin. I had to write down their names and who they were and refer back to it for the first couple chapters but then I got the hang of them.
The author plays with the crime mystery trope in an interesting way and twists the story around multiple times throughout the book. Even though I think the ending is probably not everyone's cup of tea it was a pretty fun read. It gave me strong An Inspector Calls vibes so if you like that you might like this.
