This was my first real manga I started with and I highly recommend it. Chi does tend do omit/change certain sounds of words when she speaks. (baby talk) This can trip you up a bit if you're a beginner, but by the end of the volume you'll have a good feel for it. The chapters are short with a manageable amount of text and vocabulary. And of course Chi and her adventures are adorable.
