Graded readers are the best way to transition from reading textbooks to reading native material. This series is particularly good since it comes with audio recordings of the stories so you can practice listening along with reading. I like that each story comes in three versions: a version with full furigana and liner notes defining all the vocabulary, a version without furigana so you can practice reading kanji, and an English translation to check your understanding. The stories themselves are worth reading, if only because they're stories that all Japanese kids know. The only downside is that the formatting is pretty awkward because of the complexity of the layout, since it has to incorporate furigana, the story text, and the liner notes all on the same page. Still, I recommend these if you've run out of free graded readers to read, especially if you can grab them on sale.
