Short and sweet mystery shounen

秘密の果実 is a very decent little mystery shounen about a boy and his father who move to a creepy, isolated community. It doesn't do anything revolutionary, but I had a good time reading it nonetheless. The story takes place in a contemporary rural setting, so the vocabulary seems generally common and useful, and despite the setting, all the important characters speak standard Japanese. The main things that I found difficult was that sentences can get long, and because of the mystery aspect of the story, characters will speak cryptically at times. However, neither of these was ever insurmountable.
