A young girl starts working in a tea shop and makes friends with the grandmother owner and the cat that hangs around there. We read about not only her story, but others that visit the shop. Each chapter is ended with a famous quote and an essay on the topic brought up in the chapter. Sadness, shame, anger, anxiety are all discussed.

I was more interested in the girls story, which we don’t actually get to hear fully. We also get a lot of ‘fade to black’ when it comes to other situations that came up to others, so you’re left just assuming it was all resolved lol. So I wish this was ‘more’ in that sense.

The essays were nice, but significantly more difficult vocabulary wise than the ‘story’ chapters. If you’ve read some essay books you should be fine. It gets a little philosophical though lol. I found them overly long winded but as it’s for teenagers, I get why they may have made it that way.

I really connected to some parts (e.g. the story how when a foreigner leaves everything they know to live in Korea, they can face certain struggles…I was surprised a foreign person made an appearance as a small character! Love it.) and less to others.

If you like essay books or healing type stories you may enjoy this.
