This was a lot of fun and I enthusiastically recommend it! It’s fast-moving, funny, heartwarming, and full of action. TBH it was a pleasant surprise: I picked this up mostly because it’s popular, and that makes it a good reference point for grading comparisons. But I was quickly hooked and binge-read the first volume as fast as I could. I’d like to read more of this series, once I get through some of the other stuff on my shelf.
I read the color version of the digital manga on Bookwalker. I found the color made it much easier to immediately understand what was happening in the scenes, and to visually separate the text from the background. I liked the muted color palette too. In future I’ll definitely keep an eye out for color editions.
The hero Twilight’s mental narrative and dialogue is in a fairly literary/stiff style. Another major character uses keigo frequently. And yet another who speaks childish Japanese in hiragana with wobbly grammar. There’s full furigana.
The text density seemed moderate IMO. There are mangas with less density, but I’ve seen a couple that are definitely denser than this. I think this one has a balance that’s really good for an intermediate-level story.
