青春ブタ野郎はバニーガール先輩の夢を見ない

Possibly the best light novel series

I became familiar with the 青春ブタ野郎 series through the anime many years ago. I watched all of the seasons and all of the available movies back then. Since my language skills finally allowed me to read the novels I gave it a go.

I don't think the 1st volume has many cons. Perhaps Mai's attitude is at times a little annoying and the use of a pseudo 3rd person narrator is confusing, but otherwise it's an incredibly solid read. Here are some of the highlights:

• excellent, natural chemistry between Mai and Sakuta
• adventure elements filling the reader with nostalgia
• extensive commentary on the issues of social acceptance, adherence and adolescence
• using quantum physics as a metaphor for adolescent problems (through 思春期症候群)
• great finale

I'm looking forward to the subsequent volumes!
