Set in the Taisho Period, the main character, the bastard son of a nobleman, is sent to boarding school after his elder half-brother disappears. At school he solves a number of mysteries while also trying to deal with the strange students who attend.

I liked the writing and the low stakes story, but was disappointed by the lack of investigate into the missing brother. Each chapter is episodic with a different mystery.

Because this is set in the Taisho Period the writing tries to emulate that with uncommon words, kanji and grammar, as well as references to things from the Taisho Period. Gives a great sense of the time, but makes the Japanese more challenging.
