the good:

  • interesting setting (dystopic utopia in a society which prioritizes health, medicine, and "wholesomeness" above everything else)
  • interesting topics and themes (transhumanism, privacy, society, ego/self, human nature, etc.)
  • the second half of the book felt like a somewhat smooth read

the bad:

  • the characters lack depth in my opinion. It feels like the kind of story that was written in such a way like the author intended for it to be turned into an anime at some point. The characters and the way the story is told doesn't really fit the philosophical topics that this book is about as well as it could have. In a meta-sense what the protagonist realized towards the end is right, everything she did was for herself. And in the same sense this book, for better or for worse, is about トアン and ミアハ

  • the author loves overusing compound nouns to a degree that I haven't seen in other books yet, and the prose is mediocre. It didn't feel very smooth or fun to read for the most part, except for some parts in the second half.
