YA novel about grief
This novel is written from the POV of a high school girl who's best friend passed away suddenly in a traffic accident.
The novel starts a few months after her friend passes away, when she visits her dead friend's mum. The mum gives her her deceased son's diary and says that she can't bring herself to read it but would like to ask if the girl will read it and let her know what her son wrote.
The story follows the girl's internal thoughts as she remembers her friend, struggles with the idea of reading the diary and goes through the grieving process in her own way.
The language is very much focussed around a teenager's daily life (going to school, talking about family and friends, daily activities like drinking and eating and studying) so the vocab is high-frequency and I found the language itself quite straight-forward.
As simple as it is I thought this was really well written and a well drawn picture of a young girl trying to navigate life.
