Another excellent intermediate-level graded reader
Like its counterpart "Read Real Japanese Essays", Read Real Japanese Fiction combines audio narration, six Japanese short stories, an English gloss, English grammar notes, and a J -> E dictionary to create a fairly all-in-one learning experience.
I would definitely recommend only tackling this if you're at an intermediate level; N3 at absolute minimum grammar-wise, though N2 wouldn't be unappreciated either. Vocab's not a huge issue, given the easy look-up of any unknown words in the book's dictionary. The audio is wonderful; the narrator's voice is very clear. I thought it was narrated more quickly than the other book, however. (They share the same voice actress, Reiko Matsunaga.)
The stories themselves I thought were interesting, though most felt similar in the atmosphere they raised. Stories 1 and 6 were definitely unique, but 2-5 all had a consistently creepy/spooky vibe. Subject matter was different each time, but it definitely felt like a theme.
