空ろの箱と零のマリア is one of the most highly rated LN series on both MAL and AniList. From those ratings, and a premise that caught my interest, I was very excited to read this series. Sadly, after reading the first book, it does not live up to expectations.
From a content perspective, there are just no payoffs. The "mystery" central to the plot isn't that interesting. The twists feel arbitrary, without any reasonable amount of foreshadowing or explanation. And the conclusion is unsatisfying. There's nothing that left me wanting to read the rest of the series.
From a learning perspective, this book is also a bad choice. I found the sentence structure and overall writing quality to be lacking. The only plus is that there's slightly more furigana compared to a typical book, without being excessive. But I don't think that's enough to justify reading this book for learning purposes.
I'd recommend avoiding this one at all costs.
