Peak Comedy Anime with some Difficulty
I wasn't expecting much going into this show, I'm a fan of comedy anime, but I thought it was gonna be another run-of-the-mill 6/10 one with a good joke here or there. I was wrong.
Premise/Plot: 5/5. Middle schooler and Fake-Exorcist/Spirit Medium run a Ghost-Hunting company, hijinks ensue. There were several times where I laughed out loud at the jokes, and some surprisingly emotional scenes too. I loved the story (as you can probably tell by the star rating), and I hope to start the next seasons soon. If you've watched Nichijou, the comedy is also surreal a little bit like that show. If you're a fan of dumb gags then you'll like this show.
Language Learning: 4.5/5. I picked up a lot of new words from this show. I'm at around an N3 level, but I've watched a couple of anime in the L29-30something range. I def wouldn't recommend this as a first anime, but if you've got some vocab and anime under your belt, then might as well. Some of the characters (particularly Reigen) talk fast and several jokes are verbal, so if you don't have at least around an N3 vocab level then I don't think your enjoyment level will be as high. Additionally, there are a decent chunk of exorcism/spiritual related words (you will have "超能力" memorized by heart after watching this show) so it might be best to take notes while watching or find a deck before hand.
Overall, I'd watch with subtitles if you can. I've never read the manga so I can't compare it, but the show may be easier as the manga has no furigana from what I've seen. おすすめ!
