A fairly-easy to read, relaxing first volume
愛犬が最強 may not have furigana on all of its kanji, but it has a very fluffy doggo and starts with a fairly gentle, calm plot.
From an enjoyment perspective, I will admit that it's... kinda average. The world has nothing you wouldn't expect, at least so far (the butler is even called Sebastian. How novel). It's an Isekai that is so standardized in setting that anyone familiar with the medium can jump right in. Still, it's certainly not bad, and I did enjoy the manga portion.
However, the bonus extra story on how Takumi met Leo is... NOT something I enjoyed. Yes, we know the dog is wet and cold, for the 20th time in four pages. If the original light novel dragged on and on like this while moving the plot along at a snail's pace I have no idea how it sold well enough to get adapted into a manga with this many volumes, so I assume that this bit is an outlier.
Anyhow, language learning. Due to not having furigana on most kanji I'd say that you need to be at a low N3 level to get by with ease. However, if you're high N3, the lack of furigana speeds up reading significantly. I finished the manga part of the volume about half the speed I'd read a volume in English, which was shocking, and the entire manga portion of the book gave me a list of new vocabulary words comparable in length to two chapters of Assassination Classroom. In addition, these words are the types of language you actually see and use, unlike many fantasy manga where the writers don't hesitate to pour oddly specific words onto the page.
Do be warned, however. The first half of the manga is very easy to follow since there aren't many characters and the text isn't too dense. However, once Takumi arrives at the house, the amount of text does increase significantly, so be mentally prepared for reading speed to slow down at that point. In addition, the short story at the end is, of course, all text, and while it's not much harder than the text in the second half of the manga portion, it pushes up the overall grading of the volume.
