Since isekai is one of my favourite genres in anime and manga, I was looking very much forward to this being my first Japanese light novel one. And well, while it's true that it's easy to read, using simple language and grammar, it had nothing else going for it.

The setting was generic. The only character with any kind of personality was the protagonist. There was no conflict that couldn't be solved instantly with straightforward bear-costume powers. There was no plot nor goals to work towards. Since this seems to be slice of life, that latter part would be fine, but - there haven't been any interesting interactions or situations either. It was just bland and boring.

And so, after chapter 8, instead of becoming my first isekai LN, it became the first Japanese book that I dropped.

Yes, this is an easy book to read, so I can sort of understand why everybody rates it higher for language learning purposes. But this isn't the only book around L22, and it's not like it's a graded reader with special support for language learners.

Go read something more interesting instead, and you'll learn just as much.

PS: I don't usually review books that I haven't finished, but I wish there had been a few more negative reviews to temper my expectations.
