In this short story, the main character takes a rather uncommon decision, to say the least. Castration. Why? How? That's what we get to understand little by little through the story.

While it was an interesting premise, I'm not a fan of the super religious context. It's a very important topic in this story, with lots of descriptions of religions things (christian, I'd say probably catholic but don't quote me on that). This also impacts the vocab, and if you aren't familiar with religious vocab you will probably either need to do a lot of lookups, or you'll be lost.

Another difficulty is the writing style, which is almost lyrical and poetic at times. I enjoyed spotting the different techniques that the author used throughout the text, but it does also make it a lot harder to understand. Sentences tend to be on the longer side, with a mix of a lot of tenses used, even the ever elusive subjuntivo pluscuamperfecto.
