Shirou Emiya lost his parents in a fire when he was young and was later adopted by the sorcerer Kiritsugu Emiya. Shirou is drawn into the Holy Grail War summons a female "Servant" known as Saber to protect him and obtain the Holy Grail.

This is the Studio DEEN (2006) adaptation
Kinda torn on whether to give this a 3 or 4. In many ways it's an excellent adaptation of the Fate (Saber) arc, but sometimes it just felt kinda off and full of plot holes. It didn't really help that they tried to weave in parts of the other two routes later on. Also some of the OST and sound design choices are just bizarre.
Still, if I wasn't comparing this to Ufotable's Unlimited Bladeworks adaptation, I think this stands on its own very well (and UBW adaptation certainly built on this a lot
