(4.38/5)Not for me
Warning: Rapidly changing images in the opening.
I could have been the ideal topic for me, but I neither liked the MCs, nor the animation, nor the handling of the themes.
Update: I finished the season. I'll say that when the anime is at its best, it really shines... but often enough it gets really dumb and grating. One episode (Episode 9) was bad enough that it lowered my opinion of the show by 1 star all on its own, and it was mostly downhill from there. Went from 5 stars to 3 for me. Not sure I'll watch Season 2.
I'm only 4 episodes in, so this is possibly a bit premature - but I love everything about this anime (besides the OP). The animation style is really fresh and creative. The characters seem like standard tropes, but are lively and subverted, in a good way. It's a very unique and enjoyable approach to horror + comedy. Very fast-paced, high-intensity, always keeps you guessing, and wondering how the MCs are gonna solve things. Speaking of - the MCs are soooooooo cute and enjoyable, and also really smart, and quick thinking! The single significant supporting character so far has been a great addition as well.
Anyway, I'll update this later on (possibly at the end), but so far, absolutely incredible, and maybe even my favorite of the season.

I recently re-watched the first season and wanted to give my new thoughts on it.
The premise of the story makes me crack up every time. The whole situation revolving around Okarun needing to find his balls back cracks me up every time it gets reminded and leads to some pretty funny scenes too. I personally find the humor to be a strong point of the show and it also feels pretty fresh too compared to other shounen. It's a lot more vulgar, which you suprisingly don't see much of (well at least of this specific kind). That kind of comedy might not be everyone's taste though.
Another strong point of this show is the characters, especially the 2 main leads. Their interactions are awkward and adoring to watch and I think that both men and women can relate to them very well. They also both have their strengths and weaknesses and carry an equal amount of weight during fights and such. Aside from that, the side characters like Momo's friends also add a lot of comedic moments to the show and generally fill their roles pretty well.
Additionally, the fight scenes are often cleverly handled and requires actual tact, it's not just a case of "who can punch harder" which makes them more interesting to watch.
With so many strong points and the feel of the show already being established, I honestly didn't expect more from it, but then episode 7 hit. Arguably the best episode in the season, an unexpected emotional story between a daughter and a mother that honestly I didn't see coming. The show really showed it strong points there, being able to juggle so many genres like comedy, romance, action and still being able to successfully make watchers cry in between all of it.
The weakest part of this season is arguably the end, not because it is bad per say, but rather because it ends just at the start of a new arc. That's my only big critique of this season. I'm almost certain the first season was supposed to air for 24 episodes with the way it abruptly ended.
As for the difficulty of language used in the show, they use a lot of slang and words related to ghost/excorcism/urban legends and such. I'd recommend mining those when they come along to heavily boost your comprehension of the show. I'm not qualified to say this as I am not Japanese myself, but I'm guessing that this is also a lot closer to how Japanese teenagers speak today (aside from the excessively rude language of course). Occasionally it also uses some creative insults, like calling someone a rotten mandarin. Lastly, the characters can also talk very fast on top of that. It's definitely more difficult than let's your typical slice of life because of it, but not anything that difficult if you know the words.
I can't wait to see more of this show, definitely hyped to see where it goes.
