One of the funniest comedies I've seen.
Gintama excels in being what it wants to be, an over-the-top parody of anime, movies (and nearly anything else honestly). Don't go into this expecting a shounen anime that takes itself seriously.
Somewhat unfortunately it may also turn out to be much more difficult than you might think, if you only look at it from a surface level point-of-view. It's packed to the brim with references to not only various anime and movies, but also some very specific parts of Japanese pop-culture. Sometimes it feels like you need to have a wiki open at all times to catch all of the references, but the show is hilarious even if you get less than half of them. In addition the show also has some rare vocabulary resulting from the bizarre setting (aliens in a sort of modern japan that is actually edo era japan? eh...)
This show is amazing (unless you're one of those people that think that they're above stuff like stupid puns and toilet humour)
