Stylish characters and mellow beats in a rom-com I didn’t expect to love

I had some initial apprehensions to the prospect of watching a 女性向けラブコメ as a guy but I don't regret trying. This is great, I love it. The situational comedy is so funny I catch myself replaying certain scenes multiple times just to laugh again. Not only is it funny, but the beautifully drawn characters are so sweet and pretty.

The art style reminds me of 雨と君と. It is such a breath of fresh air to see young adults wearing varied classy and chic clothes instead of teens in high school uniforms or the same totally ludicrous costume/“armor” on every episode.

氷属性男子とクールな同僚女子 is a very chill and heart-warming anime. Especially when Fuyutsuki or ブッダ部長 talk with their calm soothing voices. On that note, Fuyutsuki's deadpan delivery is on point.

Additionally, I like how they added a fantasy touch to the story with the 妖怪 descendants. It is a nice way to add comedic relief and enhance the visual language used to express emotions without resorting to super deformed characters (example) as is often done in comedies.

Expect LOTS of blushing and face close-ups.

Finally, I was quite surprised by the OP. It is the first time I hear this kind of soft mellow indie r&b pop-style beat, reminiscent of CIKI's style in an anime. As a lofi fan, it went straight into my playlist.

In the end, 氷属性男子とクールな同僚女子 exceeded my expectations in every way. The combination of its situational humor by clumsy adorable クーデレ characters, and unique fashion sense set it apart from other anime rom-coms. The subtle fantasy elements and calm, heartwarming voice acting add layers of charm that make this a soothing watch. If you're looking for a light and relaxing anime that blends romance, comedy, and style effortlessly, this one is definitely worth a try—whether you're a fan of the genre or just in the mood for something different.

Language

Overall very easy with the majority of dialogue lines spoken in standard office 敬語 and a tiny bit of Kansai-ben in 氷室(ひむろ)'s inner monologue.

Sweet

This is a very sweet, easy to watch anime. It's very much in the 癒し category. The characters are lovable and interesting, and while the story is fairly episodic, there's character and relationship development throughout. The animation is beautiful - the eyes in particular are really well done - and the music was also nice. For language learning purposes, it works well. There's a mix of casual speech, business vocab, and cultural info. 5 stars.
