(3.70/5)The manga is a lot better
I've read most of the manga series and really like it, so I decided to finally give the anime a shot, but it feels flat compared to the manga. If you have any interest in the story, I recommend you read the manga first/instead. I didn't dislike the anime, but I don't think it's a production that does as good of a job with the characters compared to the manga. I gave it 4 stars, but that was probably generous. It's more of 3.5 that I rounded up bc I like the manga so much.
In terms of language learning, the show is pretty straightforward outside of some game/fantasy terms, but there's a lot of text on screen when people are messaging in-game or texting each other. And also, kinda interestingly, in the same types of asides that tend to be handwritten in manga. I struggled to read the text as quickly as it was shown on screen, and couldn't usually keep up without pausing (and honestly most of the time I just let it go because I had read the manga before).
shit show, the chemistry between the characters is trash. it constantly felt like the dude was just chilling and then the girl kinoshita is always talking to him trying cuz she interested and then for no reason the dude falls for her and yeah it wasn't cute or shit cuz it did not feel organic at all and the side characters and side stories were all pretty boring n shit so yeah it's not good. still, I finished it as my first anime in full japanese surprisingly, and sure it was entertaining at times, but yeah just the minimum of the minimum. 3/10
Really don't remember much but I followed the story and it was fine difficulty wise (actually I'm remembering a lot of game vocab maybe and also there was the phone dialogue so actually could've been a 4 but I really don't remember). At this time I was watching all the shit stuff cuz it was the beginning and I didn't want to ruin any shows so I watched anything I wanted to watch that I knew I wouldn't have watched otherwise. SAO rewatch didn't stick, lasting only 7 or 8 episodes after which I rewatched all of SAO Abridged again lol. Sakurasou was a lot worse than I remembered with all its anime BS and I got tired after 9 episodes. And this took a while but finally became my first completed anime in Japanese surprisingly. 3/5

Why does he have to be a highschool student?
I thought he was in college when I started watching. It's an age gap romance and I am not a fan. Why Japan, just why? There was no need for him to be in highschool.
