Based on the first 8 eps - it's an incredibly lively season. While he's definitely still a bit 厨二病, Subaru has matured somewhat, and everything is very fast-packed and action paced overall. The season is good about giving you the relevant info from previous seasons, at the appropriate time. So if you've half-forgotten everyone and everything, you can probably jump right in.
Overall it's not as deep as S1 and S2 were, but it's pretty fun.
