I love books that have a sense of realism, that typically comes from a manipulation of historical events, or from the inclusion of autobiographical elements.
To this end, I love historical fiction (e.g. Robert Harris' Cicero trilogy set in Ancient Rome is a fiction following the life of Cicero, and is full of factual events reimagined),
mystery and thrillers (e.g. Naoki Urasawa's PLUTO is a sci-fi mystery thriller set in a futuristic world and includes manipulations of the Iraq War, the European Union, the KKK and so on. MONSTER is a psychological mystery thriller set in 1980s-1990s Germany and is set around events centred on the fall of the Berlin Wall, the reunification, and the collapse of the Soviet Union),
and also autobiographical and semi-autobiographical books (e.g. Dazai Osamu's Ningen Shikkaku depicts his perception of his life and how, despite his good nature, he does not find the acceptance and understanding that he desperately needs and ultimately kills himself. I would say he can be characterised as traumatised (childhood sexual abuse), autistic, intelligent and thoroughly avoidant. Nagata Kabi's My Solo Exchange Diary similarly depicts part of the worldview and experience of someone who cannot find acceptance and depicts a view contrasting to Osamu's).
I recommend that you read books that you enjoy, rather than books you think you somehow 'ought' to read. If you want to enjoy it, but observe yourself procrastinating reading it now, perhaps leave it until a time when you start reading and enjoying it without forcing it. This takes time to get your head around.
