I started learning Japanese on August 25 2024. Knowing Japanese was always a kind of distant unreachable dream for me since I started watching anime. Learning a language is something which requires way more consistency than I've ever had in anything.
I tried learning with textbooks like Genki a couple of times, but could only get to ひらがな and the first 2 chapters or so before I quit. That is until I decided to try for one more time on a whim, dropping textbooks and following a mostly immersion + anki based approach. Learning in a way that is fun to me is what makes me be able to stay consistent.
My end goal is to unsurprisingly one day get fluent in Japanese, maybe even to get to a quite advanced level for native speakers. Also naturally go to Japan one day and get 日本語上手'd. That's about it.
