This manga is about finding our own path in life. About all the ups and downs that lie in our way. About despair and hope.
I loved this manga because of how hard it hits. It can be pretty heavy at times since it deals with handicap. So I cried a lot. Not because it was sad, but because how hard the characters struggle without necessarily being rewarded. Life in this manga is not easy. Hence the name, "Real".
By the way basket is secondary, so don't worry if you don't like basket/sport
"Kokou no Hito" is a unique experience.
The story, the characters and the art are top-notch! But, you'll need to read the first 4 volumes, which are very shônen-y, to get there. Btw In those first volumes, the MC was imo the biggest weakness of the manga but, it rapidly changes afterwards, so be patient it'll be worth it.
I know "a climbing manga" can sound very boring, but climbing is just the medium through which the story is told, just like Vagabond or Ping Pong. Actually, it's just a
5-Star, if it weren't for an irrelevant relationship
If you've read any of his other novels, go ahead this one will definitely haunt you.
However, a certain relationship was not necessary imo, as it didn't add anything relevant to the story, and so dragged down the pace.
But besides that, I was 100% hooked until the end.
