Doraemon is great for practicing reading!

This book in particular is an English translation of Doraemon stories. It's meant for Japanese kids to practice their English reading. It does have Japanese in the margins though. It's well translated and good for learning less textbook phrases in the context of a story. It's a whole series with different themes. That said, I'd recommend a standard Doraemon manga for reading practice.

Great first step!

If you have been learning Japanese with hiragana and katakana this is a great way to get a quick test and confidence boost for reading comprehension! It's a simple book that is in essentially every language on earth at this point, but an important step to learning is realizing you've learned something. It may sound silly but I felt incredible when I read this in the kids section of the public library!

1000 seems like a lot but it covers all the basics!

Good book to crack open on the go and get some words in. Pictures on some topics too. I recommend it if you are new to Japanese and want to really start digging into vocab beyond a text book. Lots of words that you may hear or encounter visiting or living in Japan for everyday items or actions. It has a website too that can suppliment it.

Good for practicing on the go!

The smaller size is great for sneaking in a few pages at the office or on the train/bus. Each question comes with furigana for the kanji in the answer page. I like that it uses the kanji as it would appear but the furigana is quite small so those with bad eyes like myself beware. 500 questions for N5/4 might feel like overboard for advanced learners but for those who want practice or lack confidence its worth getting and trying earnestly to answer them.
