This novel tells the (mostly) real story of its author. Through a series of tragic events, a middle school boy goes homeless for a little while, and with his family and friends, starts to build himself back up sort of. It shows a lot of the good and bad of humanity and this world, and despite some structuring and pacing flaws, regularly got me emotional, and overall really resonated with me a lot. The writer himself admits he has the writing chops of “an eighth grader,” but the story is just so perfect and he has such a way of getting it across and tugging at your heartstrings and overcoming this bottleneck that you just have to love the piece anyway. And hey, the “eighth grade” language makes it easy for a learner too :)
